Regular check-ups and cleans help us catch any problems early on, so we can correct them before they become major concerns. It’s much more efficient and cost-effective (not to mention more comfortable) to prevent issues than to have to correct them down the road.

What to Expect

Your initial check-up and clean appointment will be with our dentist, Dr Edward Jo. He’ll ask you about any problems you may have noticed and take photos and X-rays, then he’ll do an in-depth examination, including:

• A periodontal examination, which includes a thorough screening and assessment of your gums—to check for any signs of periodontal (gum) disease.
• An occlusal exam, to check for bite problems (underbite, overbite, crossbite), worn teeth, and jaw problems, such as TMJ.
• A tooth-by-tooth check to identify cavities, examine prior treatment and restorations, and the current condition of each. We will locate any chipped, cracked or missing teeth, or identify any work that needs to be performed, such as protective sealants or fluoride treatments to strengthen the teeth.
• Checking for any lesions or oral pathologies.

Dr Jo will explain everything he finds and show you your “before” photos, so you can see what your teeth look like before cleaning and any other treatments. If there are issues that require treatment, he’ll lay out his recommendations and various treatment options. Then he’ll proceed with your cleaning.

After your teeth are polished, Dr Jo will take more photos and show you the “after” images. Our patients love seeing their before and after photos, and it helps motivate them to maintain their regular check-up schedule of coming in every six months.
