Overdentures in Salamander Bay & Nelson Bay, Port Stephens
An overdenture is a special type of removable denture that is secured on top of special titanium implants in your jaw. They are a wonderful option for people who already wear dentures and are considering an upgrade if their denture fits too loosely or is uncomfortable.

How Overdentures Work
Overdentures use strategically-placed implants to hold them in place throughout the day. In most cases, a minimum of two titanium anchors are used on the lower jaw and four for the upper jaw.
The process of installing titanium anchors is similar to getting dental implants. However, in this case, the overdentures are used when someone is missing most or all of their teeth.
Unlike traditional dentures that rest directly on your gums, overdentures clip onto the stabilising implants, which hold them in place all day.
How Are Overdentures Made?
Step 1: Consultation
Getting overdentures begins with a consultation where we visually assess your mouth and determine if you’re a candidate for the procedure.
Step 2: 3D Scan
Next, we send for a 3D scan of your mouth and create a surgical guide for the dental implants.
Step 3: Anchor Installation
After your surgical guide is ready, we place the titanium implant anchors and allow them to heal so that each one closely fuses with the bone surrounding it.
Step 4: Delivery of Your Overdenture
Finally, we attach the overdenture to your implants, providing stability and full function. Although overdentures look like traditional dentures, they have special locators underneath the plate, which snap onto the corresponding titanium anchors.
